African Subjects

While living in coastal Ghana, I portrayed the people in my Accra neighbourhood, as well as hours away, in the hills and villages of Bogosu. During a month-long trip through Zimbabwe’s game reserves, I observed and photographed many different wildlife. While these oil paintings and pastels are representational, my concern was not to paint a photographic likeness, but to include the animals in their natural surroundings. In the process hopefully capturing some of the atmosphere and feel of the day.
